Chair of Governors

Mrs Clare Long

I am a life-long learner, having been to University to study Physics, undertaken academic research and training in many different areas of education. My background is a range of professional jobs including Engineering in the Aerospace industry, Business Manager of a solicitors and 20 years of teaching in both Primary and Secondary schools. My move to Lugwardine and involvement in the community is a result of knowing the area briefly over 30 years ago and promising to return when life allowed. I have three grown up children and experience of many schools as we have moved many times during their education.

As a governor I look forward to sharing my experiences in and out of education to support the pupils, staff and parents.

The governing body of any school has three main functions:

  • To ensure a clear vision and direction for the future of the school.
  • To hold the head teacher to account for the educational performance of the school.
  • To oversee the financial performance of the school and to ensure that its money is well spent.

In practice this means working with the staff to support them and to challenge them to make sure that the school provides the best possible education for every child. The school’s aim is to help all pupils to achieve their full potential within a caring environment, thus preparing them for life beyond their primary education.

The Governing Body are always keen to hear your views or answer any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to contact any of us via the school with any comments or queries and we will do our best to help.
