Who's Who


The Governors of Lugwardine Primary Academy have a wide range of experience and expertise. They meet regularly (at least twice a term), and work in close partnership with the Headteacher to determine the aims, agree policies, targets and priorities for the development of the Academy in order to continuously improve the standards of education and promote a safe and caring environment for the benefit of the pupils. Academy Governors have legal duties, powers and responsibilities and all serve for a term of four years. However, they can only act together, not individually.

Governors are appointed to help:

  • by working in partnership with the Headteacher;

  • with the implementation of the Academy Development Plan;

  • advise on spending the budget;

  • interview and select staff;

  • ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are taught.


Academy Governors are appointed from the following categories:

  • Parent Governors:
  • Member Appointed Governors (the Members may appoint up to 12 Governors).
  • ​​Staff Members
  • A Local Authority appointed Governor
  • The Head Teacher (ex-officio)
